ALL ABOUT POSING FOR FITNESS PHOTOSHOOTS
Sometimes we look at fitness models and we think ‘How can they look so shredded in their photos?’ Well, they certainly do not look like that 24/7. They have days in which their muscles look more countered than in others. And when it comes to their photos, there are actually a lot of preparations that they do in advance in order to get the camera ready for a photoshoot.
Things that are often done before a photoshoot
👉Going on a caloric deficit or on a low-carb diet a few weeks before the photoshoot.
👉Exercising a specific muscle a few minutes before the photoshoot takes place. Many athletes would exercise right before taking photos, doing some abs, push-ups, or any sort of exercising so that their muscles would get a pump. Did you notice that you always look better after you finish your workout than you look when you start? That's because your muscles slightly increase in size when you're working out.
👉Going for a tan before the photoshoot, it is not a secret that tanning makes your muscles look more contoured.
👉Playing with the light: did you know that if you take a photo of your abs and the light comes from the side abs will look really contoured, while if you have the light coming from the front they might not show?
👉Using oil or even make-up is very common for photoshoots. Most athletes use this trick to enhance their physical appearance.
👉Last but not least, the camera, angle of the shoot, and the light make 70% of the job. When posting photos of themselves, bodybuilders, as long as everybody else, are looking for their best angles.
Keep in mind
❇️Athletes and fitness influencers do not look perfect all the time. They all have days when they are bloated when they have water retention or simply when they had a big meal, so be aware that the content you see online is curated.
❇️Your body looks different throughout the day and that is normal. I've had the photo above of myself taken at sunset. Before taking the photo I already had 2 meals and it was my day off, so I did not train on that day. I also had a cold coffee + had half a liter of water 1 hour before taking the photo, since I was at the beach at 40 degrees. Thus my abs do not show in this picture. I have so many angles. Some days I look super shredded while on other days I don't.
❇️Stop being so hard on yourself and do not compare your photos with other people’s photos. That’s really harmful to your mental health and also contra-productive for your body goals. You will never look like somebody else simply because you are a different combo: your own body type, bone structure, and genetics.
❇️ Nobody is perfect and that's the beauty of things. Diversity. Different body types. Different angles. Different hair colors. Beauty comes in all shapes. This is me. The girl doesn't have abs today but might have them again tomorrow morning. Accept me. Accept you.
